Position:  Wheelchair Van Operator

Summary: Responsible for the operation of the invalid transportation vehicle and the transportation of wheelchair and bed bound patients. Have a working knowledge of how patient transport devices, including, but not limited to stretchers and wheelchairs work, how to move a patient in patient transport devices, how to properly load and secure a patient onto a patient transport device and how to properly load and secure patient transport devices, with a patient, into a vehicle. Ensures compliance with all state rules and regulations. Checks and maintains all equipment and vehicle to insure it is clean and in proper working condition. Maintains all company required licenses and certifications. Must hold a valid state Driver’s License. Must attend mandatory training in addition to all required courses. Follow all company policies and procedures. Employees hired into this position are subject to a six month introductory probationary period. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the safe transport of customers and riders.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle, the patient transport devices, the lift, and the proper use of all other company equipment.
  • Ensures ambulance and all equipment is cleaned and checked daily. Any deficiencies should be reported immediately to the shift supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Prepares and completes appropriate reports including documentation, billing, exposure reports, incident reports, daily, weekly and monthly unit check offs. 
  • Ensures unit and crewmembers adhere to Seals driver policies, procedures, guidelines, directives and standards. Reports any deficiencies to the shift supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Ensures vehicle placed in-service comply with required laws, rules license, and regulations as outlined by the state and other authorized agencies.
  • Prompt and regular attendance at work and mandatory meetings.
  • Maintain a state of readiness and professionalism while on-duty.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while in company uniform either on or off duty.
  • Self motivated and requires little supervision and direction.
  • Performs other such duties as may be required
 Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CPR or Basic Life Support Certification
  • EVOC or equivalent certification
  • Current Driver’s License from the employee’s state of residence
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
  • Ability to read and interpret local maps.

This position will be asked to: Answer the phones in the dispatch center using appropriate communication skills. Using pre-established criteria to determine the best way to provide service to the customer. Assign runs to appropriate crews in a timely basis. Follow up with crews so that company goals, in regards to response times, are maintained. Maintain appropriate record keeping in the dispatch program and other documents that are required Maintain an open line of communication between you and your supervisor. Successfully complete and maintain the Emergency Medical Dispatch certification Complete administrative tasks as assigned. Participate in periodic and annual skill evaluations. Performs any other related duties as assigned. Be able to analyze problems and develop practical solutions. Be able to manage time in a multi-tasking environment. Be able to prioritize based on changing need. Requirements for the position include: Attention to detail, Ability to effectively communicate with others (written and verbal), Ability to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office based products, Effective problem solving techniques and the ability to handle a fluid work environment.  Possesses leadership abilities and sound judgment, works well under pressure and able to use discretion when needed. Previous experience in the EMS field with a current certification as a Paramedic or EMT and/or scheduling background is preferred.  Once obtained, a dispatcher must keep the Emergency Medical Dispatch certification active and current.  Previous experience in a call taking center / environment is preferred. Strong customer service skills with a focus on communication, determination and organization. Simple reading, complex writing, basic math skills, judgment/decision making, and analysis/comprehension skills. Current or previous experience as an EMT or Paramedic is a plus. Variety of 8 and 12 hour day and night shifts 24/7/365 based at Indianapolis, Anderson, Franklin and Greenfield stations. Full and part time position now available.

Paramedic Scholar Program

 Take your EMS career to the next level through our Paramedic Scholar Program. We’re offering current EMTs the chance to get paramedic certification for FREE with a flexible work schedule built around your studies. Plus, you’ll get paid for investing in your EMS education. 

 By advancing your certification level, you could earn 30-50% more than your current salary and open new opportunities for advancement in EMS, public safety and health care. 

The Paramedic Scholar Program removes some key barriers to advancement. We’ll pay tuition, reimburse cost of materials and provide an additional stipend for your weekly classroom/study time.
